Showcasing Act: The Drums
The Drums are Brooklyn boys with a Californian flair. Their beach-inspired music is breezy, melodic, and genuinely lighthearted. The product is Beach Boys-esque with an original new-wave, synth-pop edge. Make no mistake though, The Drums are not the every-band, they've got a reputation as one of the best dance party acts around.
The Drums' successfully provide an endless summer soundtrack. Obviously, this was their intent when they released, Summertime! last year and instantly unleashed the quintessential pop song, "Let's Go Surfing." Like old pros, their knack for pop evokes comparisons to 1950s classics with their straight forward love songs and dance-inducing surf music. Though it's not all puppy love and bubblegum, the majority of their tunes are enthusiastically carefree.
In their band bio, The Drums admit that one of their major objectives is to capture, "the first day of summer when you and all of your friends are standing on the edge of a cliff watching the sun set and being overcome with all of your hopes and dreams at once." Well, checkmate. Life is heavy enough, we can all appreciate a vacation. The only questions is, which way to the beach?
While we wait for summer, you can register now to catch The Drums at SXSW 2010.
